PROJECT AIMS
The short term aim (initial) of the project is: -
-
To provide potable piped water. We regard water supply as an essential first step, to release manpower from the manual transport of water, and to improve health and sanitation..
-
Concomitantly we plan to assist in the provision of a pre-school nursery, in order to improve education, social skills and health.
N.B. If the water survey proves favorable, we will extend the project to the provision of water for small crop irrigation

The medium term aim of the project is: -
The longer term aim is: -
To develop eco-tourism businesses; there is a clear opportunity to create a tourist industry here. The village is close to a major road between Mwanza, Musoma and Kisumu in northern Kenya. And Buturi is only a few miles from the Serengeti (the magnificent site of the migration of millions of zebra, swala and wildebeest) and close to the beautiful, Lake Victoria. The village is surrounded by a ridge of mountains, which provide lovely walking country, and where the rocks are the natural habitat of monkeys and baboons.

Funding and Progress
This project has started with the formation of a Mothers’ committee. Further assistance is to be provided for :-
- Training in health and teaching.
- Teaching aids.
- A schoolroom.
- Equipment for play and learning.
- First-aid and health.
- Feeding the children at break time.
Funding has largely been provided.

Water Project
The water survey has been completed and paid for, we now seek funding for the next stage; the borehole..
Access to Buturi
Although Buturi is a small village in northern Tanzania, it is reasonably accessible. There are scheduled flights to Kilimanjaro International Airport from most major cities.
There are regular scheduled flights by Tanzanian domestic airlines from KilimanjaroAirport to Musoma. There is a reasonable hotel in Musoma, which is on Lake Victoria.
Buturi is perhaps forty minutes from Musoma by car. Accommodation can be provided in the village for the intrepid traveler and you will be made very welcome, but it is very basic.
