Aims of the Project

The short term aim was:

• To provide potable water. This has been achieved please click on Water 2008 for further information.

The medium term aim is:

• To provide vocational training in construction skills: brick laying, woodwork & metal work.

• To build a school

• To construct a community building.

The long term aims are:

To develop eco-tourism. There is an opportunity to create a tourist industry here. The village is close to a major road between Mwanza, Musoma Nairobi and Kisumu in northern Kenya. Buturi is only a few miles from the Serengeti and close to the beautiful Lake Victoria. The village is surrounded by a ridge of mountains which is lovely walking country and where the rocks form a habitat enjoyed by monkeys and baboons.

Development Stages:

Stage One

• Water supply. (Completed.)

• Pre-school nursery/ kindergarten. (In progress)

Stage Two

• Vocational training.

• Construction of small buildings.

Stage Three

• Development of Eco-tourism

Funding and Progress

This project started with the formation of a Mothers’ Committee. Further assistance is to be provided for:

• Training in health and teaching.

• Teaching aids.

• A schoolroom.

• Equipment for play and learning.

• First-aid and health.

• Feeding the children at break time
