We selected a project which would directly help a poor community, so we undertook a reconnaissance of a small village in Tarime District of northern Tanzania, to see how we could be of help to a rural area which has suffered desperately in the past decades from AIDS, and the effect of drought.
A party of us from the UK met with the village elders and local government officials and entered into discussions as to how we could help the community.
It is worth stating perhaps at this point that we all have experience of aid and share a strongly cynical view to the efficacy of aid place through government.
It is as a result of these discussions in the village that we have prepared a project proposal for phased development. |
